Rent A Holiday Cottage In The Delightful Brecon Beacons And Enjoy A Holiday Filled With Adventure
The Brecon Beacons in Wales is one of the United Kingdom’s most delightful National Parks. The scenery is stunning and the region is scattered with pretty towns and villages. It makes for an ideal location for a family holiday – especially those families with a taste for adventure. The region attracts a large number of outdoor enthusiasts every year, as the opportunities for activities such as climbing, caving, gorge walking, pot holing, mountain biking, horse riding, sailing, kayaking and canoeing are excellent.
As mentioned above the Brecon Beacons offers a great deal for climbers whether they are highly experienced or only just starting out. There are more than four hundred climbs in the Park and these are described in the guide produced by the South Wales Mountaineering Club. If the weather becomes too unpleasant for outdoor climbing there are two first-rate indoor centres in the region. There is an indoor wall at the Llangorse Centre and there is also an indoor climbing centre at Taff Bargoed. This is one of the largest in Europe.
The Brecon Beacons also has excellent opportunities for cyclists. Take pleasure in the thrill of weaving through forest tracks and feel the elation as you cope with the steep descents. Alternatively, take a more restful pace and get pleasure from a gentle bike ride through the marvellous scenery. The Park has sixteen cycle routes making it a top destination with cyclists of all abilities.
The Brecon Beacons has been recognised as one of the finest areas for horse riding. It has in fact been awarded the BHS Access Award. There are several riding and trekking centres in the Park catering for all riding abilities. There are over six hundred miles of bridle paths and tracks including a number of long distance routes.
The National Park also provides excellent opportunities for kayakers and canoeists. The fast flowing River Usk is ideal for those wishing to take part in white water canoeing while the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal is ideal for those searching for something more peaceful. It should be noted however that the River Usk is not navigable throughout its length. Canoeing is also possible on the River Wye which touches the eastern edge of the Park.
Sailing and windsurfing is possible at Llangorse Lake. This is the biggest natural lake in South Wales. You can also sail and windsurf at Pontsticill Reservoir.
