Budget Travel With Cruise Ship

For many people, a cruise ship can be the ultimate budget travel destination. A cruise provides a great, one price, vacation, and one of the main attractions to booking a cruise is that just about everything is included in the price.

As a matter of fact, in some cases the daily cost of a cruise can be less than the daily cost of a decent hotel room. When you consider that the price of the cruise includes not only the room, but all the food and entertainment as well, it is easy to see why cruises are so popular with budget minded travelers.

Of course, there are some things that are typically not included in a cruise package, and it is important to find out what is included and what will need to be paid for as an extra.

For instance, most cruises do not include alcohol, and require passengers to pay their bar tab upon departure. In addition, most shore excursions and local sightseeing is not included, so it is important to get a detailed list of such excursions, including the price.

In addition, since advertised cruise prices are based on double occupancy, cruises are often less of a deal for solo travelers, since the single supplements can add quite a bit to the price of the cruise.

It is always a good idea to inquire about special single rates if you are traveling alone.

The location of the cabin is another important consideration when booking a cruise. The interior cabins on the lower parts of the ship are generally the least costly, while the higher, larger cabins with ocean views are the most expensive.

If you have never taken a cruise before, it is a good idea to get advice from those who have experienced cruising.

These people can provide valuable insight on the best balance of cost and comfort for your first cruise experience.

As with other kinds of travel, getting the best deal on a cruise will take some time, some planning, some perseverance and plenty of shopping around.

It is a good idea to shop as early as possible, particularly for popular destinations like the Caribbean or Mexico in the high season.

Of course, it is possible to save money by traveling in the off season, and this can often be a great strategy. For instance, even though it is the middle of the winter and most people are not thinking about vacations where you are, it may be warm and inviting in many tropical cruise destinations.

It is important, however to check out the local weather, and to avoid the rainy season in the destinations you are considering. Steering clear of hurricanes, tropical downpours and other weather problems can help you get the most out of your cruise.

It is not always necessary to shop early, of course. Cruise lines have been know to offer some spectacular discounts at the last minute in order to move unsold cabins or avoid leaving with a less than full passenger load.

There are many last minute travel newsletters that provide details on these types of cruise deals, and these last minute travel deals are a big hit with retirees and others with the time to see the world.

Choosing a Vacation Rental in the Outer Banks

There’s almost as many way to find a good vacation rental in the Outer Banks as there are actual units to rent. And to be completely honest, you’re actually going to be hard pressed to find a rental that you won’t be satisfied with, no matter which island or section that you’re looking at. The houses are generally of high quality and well maintained. There are certainly standouts; houses right on the ocean, houses with large pools, decadent furnishings or large pools. But for the most part, if you’re looking to enjoy the sand, sun, and water, all will provide you with the one basic thing you need, that being a place to stay while you’re in the Outer Banks.

First, be careful about renting a house solely based on how many people it can accommodate, or sleep. Just like hotel rooms and recreational vehicles, vacation rental advertisements tend to claim a sleeping capacity for every square inch of space that you could possibly fit a human being. And as we all know, there’s a huge difference between a pullout couch and a room with a bed and a door. If you have two rooms that are separated by little more than a hallway or another, larger room, the privacy that you’ll get in the separate sleeping areas is not the same as you’ll get in a “real” bedroom with a door.

Next, take a look at both the number of bathrooms, what they have for amenities, and where they are located. You’ll generally find a number of suite-type configuration where there’s a bedroom and a bathroom that you have to pass through the bedroom area to get to. If you’re lucky, you can have one of these suites with a deck overlooking the ocean. That’s the pinnacle of relaxation, in my opinion. However, if that’s one of two bathrooms in the house and you have 4 other couples that you’re vacationing with, your privacy is going to be very limited. Probably more so than if you had a couch to sleep on in an out-of-the-way room. The problem, you’ll find, is that 8 people aren’t going to be able to share one bathroom at the peak hours. And to even the 8:1 ratio out, they’ll be parading through your room to get to the only other bathroom in the house.

So look at the configuration of bathrooms before you sign up for a house that sleeps 12. Half baths are important as well, since they don’t offer any type of showering or bath capacity. Certainly take into account small children as well, since their need will be different.

In a Rental Car in a Foreign Country? Don’t get Lost

You’re in a foreign country that you have never visited before and you’re in a rental car. This is the perfect combination to get you lost. You have several elements working against you. That is why you need to do everything you can to keep yourself from getting lost. By not getting lost, you are able to get to your destinations faster and enjoy your trip instead of being frustrated all of the time.

Things to do before the trip

Before you leave to go to a foreign country, make sure you familiarize yourself with the spoken language. Make sure you recognize it in writing as well. It is ideal that you acquire maps of the places you’re going to visit in your own language so that you understand what the maps are telling you. If you don’t and you acquire the maps in the country you are visiting, you may be able to acquire maps in your own language. If they are not available, that is another reason for you to familiarize yourself with the language so that you can read the maps.

Try to arrange a group tour. See if there are any tours going on in which you can travel in groups. That way you have some kind of guide on your trip while enjoying the tour and you don’t have to worry about getting lost unless you get separated. The odds of you getting separated is very slim, so hooking up with a tour guide and going on some sort of tour can really be quite the treat and you don’t have to worry about losing your way.

Once you’re there

Many cellular phones nowadays have built-in GPS systems. Many of these phones can also be used in foreign countries because they are designed to work on the different bands that exist around the world. If you have a phone with a built-in GPS system and it is called a ‘world phone,’ then you can use the GPS system on your phone to help you navigate around a foreign country in your rental car. This is stress-free travel at its finest.

However, for those who do not have world phones, there is another option. There are cellular phone rental booths at airports that allow you to rent these phones. If your phone has a SIM card, all you have to do is insert your SIM card into the phone and all of your activity is billed to your cellular phone account. In the meantime, you are able to utilize the GPS feature and make phone calls to your loved ones back home.

You also want to acquire a map when you get there anyway. Even if you acquired a copy in your own language, you want to compare the maps since some things change. You don’t want to miss anything, so this is definitely an ideal task. Even if you didn’t hook up with tour guides before you left, you can learn about tours and find out what types of tours are taking place within the country. That way you can become a part of these tours and know exactly where you are going. No matter which way you do it, you can enjoy your trip to a foreign country and drive around the way you want to so that you can enjoy your freedom.
